Men Lie, Women Lie... the Iron Doesn't

Introduction

Life is a journey that’s often marked by comfort and convenience. We live in a world where air conditioning, cozy couches, refrigerators filled with our favorite treats, and microwaves to heat up our meals have become the norm. Supermarkets are stocked with an abundance of food for our convenience, making it easy for us to grab and go. We’re fortunate to live in a time and place where comfort surrounds us. But amidst all this comfort, have you ever stopped to think about the importance of seeking discomfort? It’s in the moments of challenge and discomfort that we truly grow

Embracing Discomfort

In our journey through life, there comes a point when we no longer have to do things we don’t want to do. We transition from doing what our parents tell us to becoming independent adults. If we want to sleep in, stay out late, show up late, or skip events, there’s no one to hold us accountable like before. It’s a time when our decisions and actions have real consequences. But where do you seek discomfort in a life filled with comfort? Discomfort is where growth begins.

Lessons from the Weight Room

The author’s personal journey into discomfort began with weight training, a passion ignited at the age of 14 when preparing for high school football. The goal was to bench press 225 pounds, a symbol of honor for the author. They initially believed they would reach this goal within a year or so, but it wasn’t that simple.

After five years of dedicated training, they headed to Wesley University and the opening day of football camp, where every player was challenged to bench press 225 pounds as many times as possible. It was a daunting task. The bar hit their chest, and there was no movement. Zero reps. Seven years of training had come and gone, and the goal seemed out of reach.

Fast forward to their junior year of college, and the author finally achieved that coveted 225-pound bench press. It took a grueling seven years, countless hours of hard work, and unrelenting dedication. The journey taught them that in life, achieving goals often takes more time and effort than expected, but it’s the daily grind that brings us closer to our dreams.

Have The Strength, Keep Pushing Forward

Life is not about fast-forwarding to your goals. It’s about embracing the journey and understanding that success is a product of hard work and time. Sometimes, the path can be longer and more challenging than you initially anticipated. But no matter the obstacles, it’s crucial to keep pushing forward because each day of hard work brings you one step closer to your dreams.

Conclusion

In a world where comfort and convenience often dictate our choices, it’s important to remember that growth and achievement lie in embracing discomfort. The author’s personal journey through seven years of relentless training and determination serves as a powerful reminder that hard work and time are the keys to success. So, let’s all take a lesson from the iron and keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles. Have a fantastic, determined Friday!
